Public holidays in Poland 2026 – how employees can plan vacation and longer breaks
The year 2026 does not offer many long weekends in Poland, but knowing the public holidays in Poland 2026 allows employees to plan their vacation and maximize their time off.
According to Polish labor law, if a public holiday falls on a Saturday, employers are obliged to grant another day off during the same settlement period. However, if a holiday falls on a Sunday, there is no such obligation. In 2026, public holidays in Poland will fall twice on a Saturday and once on a Sunday.
It is common practice for employers in Poland to publish at the beginning of the year when the replacement day off for a Saturday holiday will be given. This allows employees to plan their vacation periods well in advance.

May 2026 – limited possibilities to extend time off
The annual chance for a longer break will be somewhat disappointing this year. In 2026, May 1st falls on a Friday and May 3rd on a Sunday. According to Polish labor law, a holiday on Sunday does not grant an additional day off. In practice, the May holiday in 2026 will only last three days.
Compared to years when both May 1st and 3rd fell on working days, allowing employees to extend the weekend, this year’s May holiday is rather underwhelming. Still, let's hope for good weather!
Corpus Christi – opportunity for a 4-day long weekend
The calendar offers a better chance in June. Corpus Christi is a moveable holiday, but it is always celebrated on a Thursday. In 2026, it falls on June 4th. Taking a day off on Friday, June 5th, allows employees to enjoy four consecutive days off. This is one of the few moments in 2026 when the calendar allows a longer break without affecting vacation entitlement.
August 15 – holiday falls on Saturday
The Polish Armed Forces Day, which usually fills tourist trails and guesthouses across Poland, falls on Saturday in 2026. Fortunately, according to Polish labor law, if a public holiday falls on Saturday, the employer must grant a replacement day off during the current settlement period.
Assuming the replacement day is given on a day adjacent to the weekend – typically Friday or Monday – employees can enjoy a three-day break. Not as long as some other holidays, but still a welcome pause 🙂 Maybe a short trip to the countryside instead of a long journey?
November 2026 – chance for a five-day break
November is generally not favorable for long weekends in Poland, but there is a partial opportunity. On November 1st, All Saints’ Day falls on a Sunday, and as mentioned, no replacement day off is granted. The beginning of November therefore does not offer a long weekend.
However, November also offers another chance: Independence Day on November 11th, which falls on a Wednesday in 2026. Employees who have not had many opportunities for long weekends during the year can take advantage of this by submitting a vacation request for November 9–10 (or 12–13), ensuring a five-day break from work.
