In 2025, November 1st – All Saints’ Day – falls on a Saturday. According to the Polish Labour Code, employers must grant employees a day off for November 1st. This is a legal requirement intended to maintain a proper balance between working time and rest periods.
Legal basis: Article 130 § 2 of the Polish Labour Code
The rules governing the day off for a public holiday falling on a Saturday are set out in Article 130 § 2 of the Polish Labour Code, which provides:
“Each public holiday occurring in a settlement period and falling on a day other than Sunday reduces the working time by eight hours.”
This means that if a public holiday falls on a day that is normally a non-working day (typically Saturday), the employer must designate another day off. As a result, the working time in that period must be reduced accordingly.
Why is the day off for November 1st mandatory?
This rule protects employees from losing their right to rest. If the employer did not compensate for the holiday, employees would work more hours than allowed under the Labour Code. Reducing the working time by eight hours is therefore an obligation, not an option.
When should the day off be granted?
The Labour Code does not specify an exact date for granting the day off. Employers can choose the most convenient time, usually by indicating it in the work schedule or internal communication. However, it must fall within the same settlement period as the holiday.
The best option in 2025
In 2025, a particularly beneficial solution for private employers will be to grant the day off on Monday, November 10th. Why? Because November 11th (Independence Day) is also a public holiday. This combination creates a four-day weekend (November 8–11), which is both motivating for employees and practical from an organisational point of view.
Prime Minister’s Decision – November 10th free for public administration
For public administration, the issue has already been decided centrally. Prime Minister Donald Tusk issued a regulation stating:
“For members of the civil service corps, November 10th, 2025, shall be designated as a day off in exchange for All Saints’ Day, which falls on Saturday, November 1st, 2025.”
This means that most government offices and institutions will be closed on November 10th, 2025 – including ministries, voivodeship offices, tax administration chambers and other state institutions. As a result, civil servants will enjoy a four-day weekend from Saturday, November 8th, to Tuesday, November 11th.
Working time in November 2025
November 2025 includes two public holidays: November 1st (Saturday) and November 11th (Tuesday). Each of them reduces the monthly working time by eight hours.
Taking into account the day off for the holiday falling on Saturday, the total working time in November 2025 amounts to 144 hours (18 working days × 8 hours).
Planning the day dff in the Time Harmony system
In the Time Harmony system, scheduling a day off for a public holiday that falls on a Saturday is extremely simple. In the work schedule module, you can select the absence type “Day off in lieu of a holiday on Saturday.”
The system automatically records this absence in the working time register, ensuring full compliance with labour law and the correct working time balance for the settlement period.
Summary
In 2025, every employee is entitled to a day off for November 1st, as required by Article 130 § 2 of the Labour Code. For public administration, this date has been set as November 10th, 2025, while private employers may freely choose another day within the same settlement period.
Providing this additional day off not only ensures compliance with legal requirements but also helps maintain employee well-being and work-life balance.
